Another wonderful statement by Deepa Mehta. This is one of the element trilogies she made, i.e. Fire and Earth. Water is a movie about the plight of Hindu widows. When their husbands die they are exiled to Vanarasi ashram to live in seclusion and poverty like that of an hermit.

Widows are treated like disease, a bad luck, and worse like objects to some. They cannot remarry, according to their holy scriptures they can either be cremated with their dead husbands, live an ascetic life, or if the husbands' family would allow they can marry their husbands' younger brother.

The movie was shot in Sri Lanka after several violent protests and death threats received in India in the midst of its film making. Apparently, it was considered to be anti Hinduism.

Water was during the height of Gandhi's civil disobedience. It was done very creatively by Deepa, another one of her masterpieces. Each scene and each angle carefully thought to portray the despair of the widows.

It's a very very sad film. Especially if you meet the young girl who barely remembers being married to an older guy, only to be shipped to the ashram by her father because her supposedly husband died.

"One less mouth to feed, four less saris... it's really about money in the guise of religion"

***

I've seen two of Deepa's movies, Fire and Hollywood Bollywood. This lady rocks!

I switched to Huggies Supreme just this month. I noticed that Akio's recurring diaper rash along his inner thighs have disappeared. There must be something different with Huggies' material. And the hugflex feature keeps the diaper in place and fits perfectly well around his waistline.

My Akio loves this one! He talks to his toys like they are his playmates hehehe!!! This keeps him busy while I try to do my house chores. He enjoys the star pillow mobile with flashing lights and classical tunes by Bach and Beethoven. This would be a perfect gift for baby showers.

It's amazing how versatile this product is! It keeps my baby's bum smooth and fresh every diaper change. I prefer this over any other diaper ointments available out there -- they are sticky and too creamy and does not apply easily like jelly. It comes up cheaper too, for only $2-3 dollars for a 13 oz tub. You may also use it to moisturize baby's rough spots and rashes.

Dump those soiled nappies into the diaper genie pail, twist them, and close... and you'll have a babypoop-free scented nursery. The diaper refills would last to almost a month (would cost you around $5) but you need to dispose of the soiled nappies once the pail is full. Akio uses around 40 diapers a week!!! But our room isn't (that) stinky! For new parents to be out there, this is a must have!

The BEST! It feels like a washcloth (even softer and gentler) and very gentle to my newborn's skin. My little Akio never had a diaper rash despite how often he soils and wets his diapers! It's like water and cloth gliding on to your baby's skin... baby skin friendly!!! Two MOMMY THUMBS up!!! (Pampers should really pay me for this!)

A movie adapted from Mitch Albom's Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson. It's about a sports journalist Mitch Albom (played by Hank Azaria) and his dying Sociology professor Morrie (Jack Lemmon). After 16 years since Mitch's graduation, he finally visited his old professor Morrie who is dying of Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) . Amidst his chaotic life, he managed to spend his Tuesdays with his professor -- learning how to live from a dying man. The movie makes you think on things that really matter...of love, family, and friends ...of regrets, forgiveness, and joy... of time, money, and life.

After the movie, I thought of how to live the rest of my life...what kind of legacy will I leave behind? And I pondered a lot on forgiving myself for the past blunders and the rest of those who have wronged me. I thought of how to raise my baby, what to teach him/her... and thought of how to be good wife, mother, friend, and sister...

I wonder, how will I be remembered?

Adapted from Nicholas Sparks' The Notebook, this movie was somehow dragging right from the very beginning. But nevertheless, the material still made me cry... it was far better reading the book, of course! How could you not be sad watching somebody you love so much getting lost in her/his own world??? I thought the actors were great and the cinematography as well, but then again it lacked a certain charisma for it become a really-must-see-movie.

I watched it with my husband, we somehow reminisced those good (not so) old days...quite romantic to watch this chick flick with your man. The movie can inspire you to still believe in LOVE and all that! (",)

A dark adult film about life, sex, love, lies, and truths. A story revolving around four main characters: Larry - the dermatologist (Clive Owen), Anna - the photographer (Julia Roberts), Alice/Jane - the stripper (Natalie Portman), and Dan - novelist/obituarist (Jude Law). It's an artsy film - very well presented and edited, I thought it could somehow be a play (and indeed it was an adaptation of a stage play). If you don't pay attention to their conversations, you would definitely get lost with its order of events. In the end... with their lives intertwined, hearts and souls were broken...nobody really won...no happily ever afters! Tragic but very realistic.

It was okay! The effects were outstanding. Tom Cruise's and Dakota Fanning's acting were superb...amazing story about alien invasion and human's survival instincts...but, after the movie...I asked myself "was that it!?"... I wanted some more...

Hilarious!!! Witty!!! Entertaining!!! Simply shows that the complications and excitement of the crazy and amazing world called MARRIAGE is so universal despite the couple's background and profession (imagine: The Incredibles)...not much different with Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Just go watch it!!!

I LOVE IT!!! Christian Bale did justice to the Batman character...the best Batman in a suit hehehe!!! I've always thought Michael Keaton was the best so far...but darn this movie proved me wrong! I enjoyed the fight scenes, the mishaps of the hero wanna-be, and the concept of Liam Neeson's army! If it were true, I would think the Philippines is a highly candidate next to Gotham City...

I guess I expected too much from the movie, with all its marketing hype...For me, there were just too many storylines and scenes necessary for this last Star Wars to explain everything...(from Anakin to Darth Vader and the twins Luke & Leia...) Thus, the poor editing...Although I loved the fight scenes, kept me awake the entire movie...

What an interesting and informative book!!! Very entertaining indeed, it's like reading from someone else's series of pregnancy and mommyhood blogs...a book that speaks to you...Jenny McCarthy did it again!!! This book was just released recently, a sequel to her best selling Belly Laughs (which I've also read before I even got pregnant hehehe!!!)

A must see!!! A simple plot with extraordinary performance by Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. It's subtle deliverance of very serious and meaningful thoughts is soo powerful!!! When you think of the people you love who have gone to the other world, you can't help but wonder if they're truly in Neverland! This explains why Peter Pan was created...to believe in magic...to not grow up and still be a child...I CRIED a lot!!! It truly touched my heart =)

It was fun but I guess lost its novelty being a sequel to the big hit Ocean's Eleven. It was more like Brad Pitt's and Catherine Zeta Jones' movie...still hilarious and witty...I cracked up when Julia Roberts was 'forced' to play a role in pursuit of a faberge egg. You can actually wait for the DVD release...don't bother rushing to the theatres to catch this film =)

Gives you a nice piece of action, somewhat of a thrill and adventure. Nice shots of DC, Philadelphia, and New York! If you're a historical freak, I wonder if you'd get so excited or disappointed with the plot. Anyway, there were a few 'boring scenes', bad acting, and unnecessaries. Nicolas Cage could have done it without his lady side kick.

Light and entertaining!!! Woody Harrelson is absolutely hilarious...you better watch it! Girls drag your men to watch it..I'm sure they will oblige..they can't resist Salma Hayek's charm and voluptuous bod. And of course who can forget Pierce Brosnan's very witty and loveable performance in this Thomas Crown Affair meet James Bond cocktail...a nice movie date!!!
